Corn is one of the most widely distributed crops in the world. It is cultivated in large quantities from 58 degrees north latitude to 35-40 degrees south latitude. North America has the largest planting area, followed by Asia, Africa and Latin America. The countries with the largest planting area and the largest total output are the United States, China, Brazil, and Mexico.
1. United States
The United States is the world’s largest corn producer. In the growing conditions of corn, moisture is a very important factor. In the corn belt of the Midwestern United States, the soil below the surface can store appropriate moisture in advance to provide the best environment to supplement the rainfall during the growing season of corn. Therefore, the corn belt in the American Midwest has become the world's largest producer. Corn production plays an important role in the U.S. economy. The United States is also the world's largest corn exporter, accounting for more than 50% of the world's total exports in the past 10 years.
2. China
China is one of the countries with the fastest agricultural growth. The increase in dairy farming has increased the demand for corn as the main source of feed. This means that most of the crops produced in China are used in the dairy industry. Statistics show that 60% of corn is used as feed for dairy farming, 30% is used for industrial purposes, and only 10% is used for human consumption. Trends show that China's corn production has grown at a rate of 1255% in 25 years. Currently, China's corn production is 224.9 million metric tons, and this number is expected to increase in the coming years.
3. Brazil
Brazil’s corn production is one of the major contributors to GDP, with an output of 83 million metric tons. In 2016, corn revenue exceeded $892.2 million, a significant increase compared to previous years. Because Brazil has moderate temperatures year-round, the corn growing season extends from August to November. Then it can also be planted between January and March, and Brazil can harvest corn twice a year.
4. Mexico
Mexico’s corn production is 32.6 million tons of corn. The planting area is mainly from the central part, which accounts for more than 60% of the total production. Mexico has two main corn production seasons. The first planting harvest is the largest, accounting for 70% of the country’s annual output, and the second planting harvest accounts for 30% of the country’s annual output.
